Single Opt-In Or Double Opt-In?…

If you are trying to build your list, or you have already built your list and want to increase the quality of opt-ins to your list, then you’ll definitely want to pay attention to this, because this will determine the size of your list, and it’s been tested…
Single Opt-In or Double Opt-in which one is better?
Let me give you a scenario of what single opt in is and what double opt in is. Single opt in is when your visitor subscribes to your website and a welcome email is sent immediately without them having to open they’re email to confirm they’re subscription.
Double opt in is when your visitor subscribes and they are immediately sent a confirmation email before they can receive information from you. So, they have to check they’re email and confirm in order to get your first welcome email.
Which one of these email methods is better?
It depends all on the offer, all on the welcome page, all on the relationship your visitors, for example, if they know you already and trust you, if they don’t that’s where it may depends. But, from testing, I have found that double opt in is the better choice, why? Because of one reason…
Double opt requires your subscriber to login to they’re email address and click on the confirm URL before they can receive information from you. So with that being the case, you build a better subscriber base, because it’s like qualifying your subscribers, the ones that are serious are the ones that will check they’re email and confirm.
It’s arguable that single opt in is the way to go, but here’s the problem… Single opt in only requires one email, and here’s what happens to your subscriber list. Let’s say for example, someone opts in to your list, they may not go and check their email right away. Let’s say they check it 3 days later, and in that time, they have already received hundreds of other emails and that leaves your email in the dust.
Also with single opt in, you can be accused of spam. Here’s why, since it requires just one email which is the welcome email or the first email you have set to go, your subscriber may forget that they subscribed to your list and when you send a email it could backfire on you. Although, the test showed that you will get more subscribers with single opt in, I recommend double opt in, because you have qualified your prospects first.
Here’s one of the biggest reasons for double opt in…
With double opt in, your subscribers cannot cry spam if you are sending legitimate emails because, since they are sent a confirmation email, they have to confirm that email in order to get your email, so it creates a timestamp with your autoresponder, that you can use to remind them that they opted in to your list at this certain time, certain date, and IP address, even with email.
That protects your business more from being accused of spamming. So in conclusion, although you will build your list bigger with single opt in, depending on the offer and trust that you have with your visitors and clients, double opt in is the way to go, it will not cut down your subscriber list by a lot, but in the long run it will protect your business and your credibility and sort the most interested subscribers for your list.
