Forums, Good Or Bad Traffic Generation?…
By Terrance Charles | August 28, 2007
I know you’ve heard a lot about using forums as a method of traffic generation. You may be involved with one now or have in the past so your familiar with them.
But, are they good or bad? Is it worth it?
It depends on which forum you are using, but from my experience with forums, they are one of the best traffic generation tools you can use that is honest, open to reviews and very helpful.
Oh yeh, you best believe you will get honest reviews from forums, dislikes and likes. It’s a great place to keep up with the market, see what’s going on and share your ideas and also learn new ideas, because you can never stop learning.
So how do you use a forum for the most effectiveness?
When you join a forum you have what is called a signature which you can place your website link, a favorite quote or whatever you decide. This is the ONLY form of advertising in a forum, the moderators do not play games when it comes to spam, and spamming will ruin your credibility as a marketer.
Make sure that your signature cause curiosity, it has to be a attention grabbing title, everything falls back to the title, without a great title, you won’t get ANY results at all. Seperate your signature from other signatures around the forum.
Normally, you see the same type of signatures, same colors, same fonts, be creative and use different colors, different fonts, but don’t overdue it, I noticed that using the color red with bold gives me a lot of traffic from my signature.
Even the color blue with bold stands out, you don’t want to use the standard black, it blends in with the post. Once you create your signature that stands out, that’s only half the battle, your website needs to be able to convert this traffic, I’ve heard from other members that they get a lot of clicks, but no real conversion to their website.
It’s time to brand yourself…
Not only are forums good for signatures, they are good for branding also. I see this a lot where someone uses a cartoon avatar, and that cartoon avatar sticks in my mind and I know who’s posting, BUT… Instead of branding Daffy Duck, why not brand yourself?
You need a great picture, one that’s not just going to blend in. You need one that people will remember as you continue to post. This creates trust because as time goes on, your picture is your credibility, so is your post, but your pictures stands out and it has a effect on wether or not people will open your post.
But where does the long lasting results come from?
Content. Yep, it’s still true, content is king. When you are posting in a forum, the main reason should not be to rack up your total post, you should really focus on answering that person’s question, to the best of your ability.
That goes a long way, people remember you for being that helpful person. You always want to give clear and easy to understand replies. That seperates you from other forum members because for the ones that are just there to rack up total post points, the ones that are seeking feedback will notice that.
Be honest, if you do or don’t like something let it be known, it’s a place where people get together to share and recieve information, so your honesty is key. Create that attractive character, people are drawn to the attractive character.
So all in all, forums are a great place to brand yourself, help others, learn new things, gain more traffic and trust and keep current with what’s going on in your market place, it’s definitely a traffic generation method to use.
