3 Costly Blogging Mistakes…
By Terrance Charles | New Here? Subscribe To Blog RSS...
It’s great owning a blog, it’s profitable, fun, and it can bring you a lot of backlinks and natural search engine traffic, who’s complaining about that. Although that is the benefits of owning a blog, they are blogs that doesn’t have a chance to take off and capitalize on these benefits because they are making mistakes from the jump…
What Are 3 Costly Blogging Mistakes?…
#1 – Plugins/Widgets – This is VERY important. I see tons of blogs online that doesn’t have any plugins or widgets at all. Then I see blogs online that does have plugins and widgets but not the right ones.
The key is, your plugin or widget has to be able to effectively make your blog profitable, promotable, and able to notify blogging directories and sites of updates. I have seen some of the best content on blogs that have really interested me, but I noticed they didn’t have the right type of plugins for others to share it with on other high traffic blog services.
You want to make sure that your readers and visitors can easily share your site, be updated of new content, and participate on your blog as easily as they can, the more easier you make it for them, the easier it will be for you.
One great widget is AddThis.com and there are tons more, but addthis allows you to add a subscribe feed button to your blog and a bookmark button to your blog so people can easily susbscribe to your blog or bookmark it on popular blogging services, this is very important. Other great widgets like plugim (which by the way is for marketers) so I prefer this over digg service.
#2 – Profitability/Reach – Sure it’s fun to blog, but there is time involved. And if your blog is indexed in the search engine and getting a decent amount of traffic, why waste it right? You want to make your blog as profitable as possible, you can do this with plugins/widgets or other type of blog services.
For example, google adwords, or yahoo publishing can really be a profitable source of income for your blog. It is targeted to the content you have so your clickthroughs are much better. I see blogs online that are great, but they are producing no type of revenue for the owner, and just some simple changes and code add-ons can take it to the next level.
There are plugins/widgets that allows you to get paid for blogging about services that appeal to your target market. They are services that pay you for displaying their ads on their website via Pay Per Click aka PPC, and they are types that pay you for Cost Per Lead or CPL, just for sending traffic to their website that results in leads or sales you get paid for.
Then there is one of my favorites, which is using affiliate marketing to get paid. Clickbank is one of the best places to easily find affiliate products that are demandable in your niche. I won’t tell you to blindly recommend them, but this is where most of the affiliate products are so chances are you are a member and have a clickbank link, so for those that you already reviewed you can easily mention it on your blog.
Create your blog content around that product, make it useful and it will be much easier to make sales from your blog. For example, if you are recommending a product on traffic generation, create a blog post that explains different ways to get traffic and then recommend that affiliate product later on, you already built trust in your post, so it’s more likely you’ll get the sale, don’t just blatantly blog the product itself.
#3 – Demandable Content – If your blog doesn’t have up to date content, it will slowly sink into the blogosphere. The best kind of content you can have on your blog is useful content that teaches how to do something, entertainment/humor of some sort, or any type of news or media that is widely talked about, and are great topics that make people want to participate in.
Not only is this great for your readers, but it’s also great for your traffic too. If you look at the biggest stories in your niche, then you’ll see how popular they are and how people are interacting in it, so you can post what you think about this story etc, or why you didn’t agree with the story and send people rushing to your blog.
You don’t want your content to be boring, or you don’t want your content to not have any type of interest in the minds of your readers, if it’s not something that entertains them, something that is useful to them, or something they’ll want to participate in, then don’t blog about it. These 3 mistakes are costly if your not using them, so this is a helpful topic that people will find interesting, it got your attention right
You don’t want to discredit information from other blogs JUST to get traffic, that’s unethical. If you don’t agree with what is being said, blog about it, it’s your opinion. Staying current with the latest trends in your niche will keep you ahead in the blogging world because people will pay attention to your blog, impement these 3 principles to your blog and watch your traffic, readers, and profits grow quicker than you thought.
What are your suggestions? What do you think you need to have for your blog in order for it to stay profitable, recommendable, and gain more traffic, I would like to hear your feedback, what is working for you, or what can you improve on?
