The Brand Called Barack Obama… What Does It Mean For America And The Internet Marketplace?
By Terrance Charles | May 5, 2008
First off, “Yes We Can” and I have to say, I’m not the most updated in politics… It’s not my expertise, but there is a new brand that is gaining popularity in politics and the new facelift of America, and that brand is Barack Obama…
What Does It Mean For America And The Marketplace?…

Barack Obama represents change, and that definitely hit’s home with the younger generation. When Obama speaks, we listen, we feel that what he promises and what he can do if elected in office is real, and especially what’s going on in Iraq and how it affected America, it’s really time for a change, and Barack Obama can definitely bring that to the table.
Politics, afterall, is about marketing, projecting and selling an image, stoking aspirations, moving people to identify, evangelize, and consume. The promotion of the brand called Obama is a case study of where the American marketplace - and potentially, the global one is moving.
His open approach to the way consumers today communicate with one another, his recognition of their desire for authentic “products” and his understanding of the need for a new global image all are valuable signals for the marketers everwhere. Barack Obama is 3 things you want in a brand, new, different, and attractive.
Obama greatest strength amoung the young, roughly 18 to 29 years old, that advertisers covert, the cohort known as millennials - who will outnumber the baby boomers by 2010. They are black, white, yellow, and various shades of brown, but what they share - new media, online social networks, a distaste for top-down sales pitches - connects them more traditional barriers, such as ethnicity, divide them.
Obama utilizes all forms of web 2.o internet marketing to get his message out there to everyone, and that’s where the younger generation can be reached, it’s a new form of connecting on a real level, and using social networking websites gives his message a twist in viral marketing.
The fact is, America needs a change, a new direction, a new facelift, a new image and a candidate that will enforce change and not just talk about it, really get in there and get the job done, that’s what we want. There’s too much families losing love ones to this unfocused, avoidable war, and were over that and ready to take control.
I don’t despise Hilary Clinton at all, she is a democrat and that’s what I believe in, but I feel that for a president, we need someone that is for the new generation and will take charge, and Obama is unlike anything America have seen in a long time, and that is a big reason the American people is behind him, they believe.
Obama is a leader. He get’s people to do things on their own, through inspiration, respect, and trust and not as a boss. His marketing approach with the slogan “Yes We Can” symbolizes just that. Change will not come if we wait for some other person “he said on super tuesday, “or if we wait for some other time… We are the hope of the future.
His promotion strategy using web 2.0 social networking sites and his own website is brilliant, he reaches his audience on a bigger level. And with facebook cofounder Chris Hughes, who signed on early to work with Obama, has helped the campaign leverage this marketing to raise funds, boost attendance at events, and win votes.
There is a new, authoritative consumer emporwered by the web, and they can smell a fake. The brand called Obama is far from that, people feel the trust, he is different, you feel like you actually know him and you can just tell that he won’t just talk the talk, but walk the walk and that’s why Barack Obama should be elected as president, it’s a new shift for America.
Feel free to Digg this story, help spread the message. If you are a supporter of Barack Obama, then you know that real change is coming and it’s about time. You can check out his official website at http://www.barackobama.com where you can show your support…
