Information Overload? How To Cut It Down Quickly…

By Terrance Charles | May 10, 2008

Ahhh - Information overload :-( … One of the biggest challenges facing internet marketers all over the world. It can keep you from being productive, it can keep you from launching your own product, it can keep you from being successful, here’s some tips to cure it…

Information Overload - How To Cut It Down…

Information Overload - How To Cut It Down

So how does it start? First, it starts off by the changing trend in the internet marketing industry, with that change comes more exciting or better ways of solving a problem. Because of this, you are on several different email list and you get pulled in different directions.

For example, I am on about 30 internet marketing list, so I do have a lot of email coming in with new trends, firesales, membership sites, 7 dollar products, new videos, product giveaway sites, affiliate programs, business opportunities etc, so it’s easy to lose focus on what’s really important to YOU, not to them, but to YOU.

So in order to cure information overload, I take these steps to cut it down. Everytime I get a email, I check wether it’s important or not, don’t matter who it’s from, even the top internet marketers, if it doesn’t have anything to do with what I am doing, I don’t need it, now that’s very important for you to look at.

If your going to create a ebook, and your getting emails telling you about a new product on blogging, it has nothing to do with what you are doing and it just wastes your time, sure it may be good and you want to soak up as much information, but 90% of products out there are garbage, so you need to choose carefully.

So once I open these emails, I don’t just buy the offer or signup because everyone else is doing it. There is a advantage to being on many list because for one, it let’s you know what’s going on with the industry, what’s hot or not, what’s moving or not, what new trends is happening and it benefits you not only because you know, but because you can position yourself in that niche of knowing and create a product or video etc to compliments the trend.

ONLY work on what YOU need to work on. You don’t need all teleseminars, you don’t need all webinars or all new products etc, UNLESS it has something to do with what your doing that will help you get closer to your goal.

Information overload can be a B&*%# because it takes you away from what you need to do. You know those emails you have piled up with the “flag” on it, the ones you put away until the next day or next week whenever it comes back up in your mind, those start to pile up more, then you end up setting yourself far back.

Sometimes it’s good just to delete it all, start with a new slate, and this time, qualify the information that comes into your main email. For the emails that don’t appeal to you, either delete them or unsubscribe from them, you may think… “I may need that one for later, or it might hurt me to delete it” but once you delete it or unsubscribe you feel even better, hey, you can always resubscribe if it’s a offer that you NEED.

Sort and Sift your emails and your to do list. Keep the MOST important and delete the ones that you really don’t need, you may think you do, but you don’t. Letting in too much information that you don’t need is what will keep you from doing what you have to do. If it’s not making you money, or helping you in some way, trash it.

Using these same exact tips I’m giving you right now has helped me to basically cut down information overload quickly, I ONLY concentrate on what I need and handle that, what I don’t need I simply delete it without thinking, that free’s my time and once you put them to use it will free your time too, and get you back to making money.

If you want to learn how to focus better, create more positive energy, and get more done, “How To Concentrate” by Ruth Ritchie is a good read. It will definitely give you a better chance at focusing your energy and productivity in the right direction.

Nice article. It´s all about focusing and concentrating on the work that needs to be done. It´s more fun to surf around youtube but it will not get the work done.
