Does Your Spouse Or Family Understand Your Business?…
By Terrance Charles | May 15, 2008
Ok, now there’s certain things we learn online as internet marketers that can hold our business from reaching it’s real potential from, lack of traffic, not having a list, or not having a website etc, but there’s one that can still hinder your business, and it’s not usually talked about…
Does Your Spouse Or Family Understand Your Business?
This is very important. There’s nothing like someone who doesn’t believe in what you do for a living, even if you are just starting out on the internet and trying to make money, you don’t need the extra criticism and pressure from your spouse or family member telling you to give it up, it only works for selected people.
I know we all heard that one “Those things really don’t work, their just scams”… If only they knew what we know right
. It’s not hard to be successful on the internet, but if you have a factor like this, it definitley makes it tougher, it can give you motivation, or it can break you down.
Not that I have problems now, but I know what it’s like. True story, my friends and family would always ask me what I do, why I spend so much time on the computer. When I told them that I run a internet business, they did not respond to that quite well, it was either it won’t work or it’s a scam. But, that’s because they have that mindset, if they can’t do it, then you can’t either.
I would get the ridicule such as, you need to give up that internet hobby and find a real job. Yeh right, a real job (just over broke) just like them, no sir - my mindstate was different and I use to want them to understand the potential of the internet, but no matter how much you try to explain, they won’t understand fully until they start to see the proof.
I don’t blame them. I don’t have any problems now, they understand because they see the checks coming in, the websites coming out and making more money, so instead they ask how to do it too, or they always beleived in it <- Yeh right…
But, really if this is the case in your life that is keeping you and your business from being productive, don’t let it get to you, let it feed your creative energy to make your business successful. No matter what you do in life, you will always have people that will doubt you.
It’s always better if your spouse or family members are involved in your business and see the value in it, but that’s not always the case. Either they feel you are not spending as much time with them anymore, because your always on the computer, but as your business progress and starts pulling in money, they will start to understand, it’s weird, but that’s how it works.
They may think your nuts, talking all day on a headset, or watching a webinar, or answering the phone talking to your customers, or listening to training courses etc, and it can be frustrating, I remember it was, but you just let them know that this is something you feel strongly about, and this is what you want to do as a lifestyle for the future.
As you go along and you start making money, then it starts making sense to them and they accept your business as a lifestyle and will even want to get in on it, although you tried to explain it then. Can it work? Yes… You just have to not take it so personal because they don’t know what you know.
Stay positive, motivated, keep your eye on the goal, continue doing what you do and bring in the results, bring in the money, it’s your business and your lifestyle, even if you have to pass up couple people on the journey.
