5 Power Twitter Tips That Actually Work…

Ok, by now you’ve heard about twitter. The cool social media tool that takes conversation and interaction to the next level. Maybe your using it, and maybe you haven’t yet. If not, now is the best time to do so, you’ll see why once you start implementing it to your marketing. This time, I want to give you 5 of my power twitter tips that will work for anyone that uses them.
5 Power Twitter Tips That Actually Work…
People ask me or ask others, what is the best way to capitalize on twitter. Well, the first thing you don’t want to do is SPAM twitter, because you’ll quickly get unfollowed and banned and that won’t look good on you at all, remember once you lose someones trust in the beginning, it’s hard to get it back.
TIP #1 - Be personal. No one likes boring people, don’t just tweet about what you ate for breakfast, or when you are mowing the lawn. People like cool people, it’s a fact, you have to treat twitter like a party and your the host, you want to make sure that your guest (followers) are having a good time.
This is how they’ll remember you, wait for your tweets and even Retweet your tweets. Once you build trust and a loyal follower base, you gain much more respect, popularity and traffic from your recommendations. Give them information that entertain, inform, or of value and they’ll enjoy your tweets.
TIP #2 – 2-Way Conversation. I see this mistake being made on twitter, people that conversate with the internet of a one way conversation. This isn’t blogging or email list marketing, this is real live people that you are talking to direct. Conversate with people that you find interesting, that’s the best way to build real relationships and at the same time build followers.
Engage with other tweeters and you’ll find that they’ll engage with you, and it’s actually fun and rewarding at the same time. You even get to talk to some of the big names in the industry, they won’t bite, just engage, ask questions or answer questions they may have, it’s all about relationship building.
TIP #3 – Keep It Real. Don’t feel like you have to bar yourself from keeping it real because of your percieved brand or credibility. Talk to people like you would talk to them if you met them in the bar. Cut out the jargon and keep it real. People love real people, you don’t have to too much worry about grammar either, just type like you are thinking it.
I see people using cusswords on twitter, but were all adults, and you decide if you want to follow them or not. But, the interesting thing is, these people have a lot of followers that hang on to their everyword, why? For the simple fact that their keeping it real. If you like something say it, if you don’t like something say it too, you can win everyone, but the loyal few you do will be there for you.
TIP #4 – Show Love. I find that doing this helps you build relationships and your own circle on twitter. If you see something you like, Retweet it to your followers and the person you retweet it from will then return the favor later on when they see something they like. Ofcourse don’t just retweet anything just for that reason, but do it because you like the tweet.
When you help people you help yourself, and that’s what twitter is about too. It’s one of the quickest ways than myspace, facebook, and most of the other social networking sites to build a quick and lasting relationship. I’ve had Joint Venture partners and gained long-term friends because of twitter and just showing love to other people because I wanted too.
TIP #5 - Have Fun. It may sound plain, but if your not having fun on twitter or whatever you are doing, you are wasting your time doing it. Just relax and interact with other people. The more fun you have doing it the more productive it will be for you. If you treat it like marketing and just sell, sell, sell you’ll kill your chances at building relationships, joint venture partners, sales and traffic quickly.
Rule of thumb, when you treat it like something you love to do, twitter is going to reward you on it’s own with branding, followers, credibility, traffic, sales, joint venture partners and buzz. You don’t have to force it, and your followers can tell when your having fun because their having fun tweeting with you too, the quickest way to gain credibility and popularity on twitter is by being cool, and if your having fun, they’ll notice.

Fantastic tips and absolutely the core of success on Twitter! I was going to do a similar post so maybe I can use your basic tips and then add on my thoughts on each tip? And of course share the credit with you!
P.S. for those of you who come across this post, I met Terrance on Twitter and I may not have met him had it not been for Twitter! I ended up visiting his blog because he responded to something I posted and then he complimented my blog (interacted with me)…proof of these points! Because he interacted with me, and created a connection, I was compelled by curiosity to check him out and see who he is and what he’s up to – humans are naturally curious but often only if you do something to generate our curiosity!
Terrance and I were apparently already following each other but because we had never spoken I never really knew who he was or looked at his blog. All it took was a few words and we’re visiting each other, commenting on each other’s stuff, etc.

Twitter is like a breath of fresh air on the Social Media scene. I have been on it for just a few weeks now and I have met several interesting people. It is a platform to network with people you would like to meet in real life.
