21 Twitter Turnoff’s That Will Damage Your Credibility…
By Terrance Charles |
Twitter, if used correctly is one of the most powerful social media marketing tools on the planet. Twitter builds relationships, credibility, trust, sales, subscribers, traffic and branding. But, if used in the wrong way will ruin your credibility quicker than you think all virally. Here are 21 Twitter Turnoff’s That Will Damage Your Credibility if used in the wrong way.
21 Twitter Turnoff’s That Will Damage Your Credibility…

#1 – Repeating the same message and URL over and over on your profile.
#2 – Mass follow 1000′s of people just to send a automated DM ( Direct Message. )
#3 – Not using a Avatar or yourself or company brand on your profile.
#4 – Not checking people and URL’s before you RT ( Retweet ) them.
#5 – Tweeting after you’ve been drinking all night.
#6 – Continuously using foul language in your tweets.
#7 – Pretending to be something you’re not, like a guru or social media expert.
#8 – Tweeting stuff that has no real value, mainly a link to something to buy.
#9 – Constantly arguing or cussing at your followers.
#10 – Not giving RT thanks or giving credibility to other tweeters.
#11 – Constantly telling people how to get “100′s” of followers when you have 30.
#12 – Constantly DMing game apps like “Mafia Wars” to your followers.
#13 – Using automated DM’s the wrong way, using it to spam people instead of engage.
#14 – Using @ Reply to hundreds of people with the idea to get visitors to your URL’s included.
#15 – Using numbers like follower121333 in your twitter username. People associate that with spam accounts.
#16 – Constantly tweeting about “The Trump Network” like alright already.
#17 – Constantly posting URL’s to different products in an attempt to sell people.
#18 – Retweeting the same old rehashed content over and over.
#19 – Not replying or paying attention to your followers and customers when they have a question.
#20 – Constantly tweeting stuff that is not related to your target audience.
#21 – Tweeting URL’s to inappropiate or hate websites to spread a message.
The GOOD thing about Twitter is you can build your brand, engage with like-minded people and drive traffic to your website. The BAD thing, if used in the wrong way will ruin your credibility faster than you’ve built it, so you definitely want to stay away from these 21 credibility turnoffs
Do you have any suggestions you would like to add?

Nice list Terrance, It’s good that you brought some of these to attention. Twitter is a place to engage people and not a place to abuse the system

Hi Terrance,
Good post and very timely with the growth of Twitter. We have all received these sort of Tweets and they certainly turn me right off.
I especially hate those members who never have anything to say that doesn’t include a link like:-
Hi, want money. go here etc etc etc
thanks for sharing,
Mal.

I have so many of them in my stream, the “forex” ones, the “quit smoking” ones, the “the trump network” ones, I mean, it’s just a turnoff

Hi Terrance
#14 really irritates me. I suggest when you get these irritating tweets to ignore them. Instead focus on communicating with people who are tweeting useful information.
And I really believe that you should make sure you set up your profile page properly. Using a photo of yourself, your real name in the bio along with a relevant description, and a custom background. After all, you only get a split second to make a good first impression. If you don’t you could ruin your credibility right there.
Excellent post!
Talk to you soon

And the thing about this one is, some of them are good name marketers, they are just using Twitter the wrong way. Their killing their presence before they really even get started

Great list except…well, I can’t see how you can honestly use anything “automated” to “engage.” Just doesn’t seem right to start a conversation with a bot. IMHO, anyway.

And you would really be surprised as to how many followers are really bot’s with automated tweets

Enough already with the Trump Network huh, that’s funny, but true. I’ve pretty much seen people doing all of the above mentioned. If used correctly twitter and other social networks work beautifully, but some people just have to do it their way, even if their way isn’t the way to go. Good post brotha.

That’s one that irritates me the most, I’ve been hearing about the “Trump Network” for like 3 years now, over and over
